VINTAGE: 2012
APPELATION: DO Rioja
VARIETALS: Tempranillo, Garnacha
ABOUT THE WINE: The wine is matured in American oak, with regular racking (and re-sulfuring) every six months. The tannin and aroma profile of American oak is sweeter and softer than than of French oak. Viña Ardanza is typically made six times a decade.
TASTING NOTES: Outstandingly bright, lively, and intense garnet red with an incipient, cherry red rim. The first nose is very intense, with spicy, balsamic and ripe fruit notes. After light swirling, new aromas of black pepper, sweet licorice, nutmeg, coffee, vanilla and cinnamon make their appearance.
